After the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, 890 central laws have been implemented there so far. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman gave this information in the Lok Sabha on Monday. Article 370 was removed from Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019.
Nirmala Sitharaman said that after the removal of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, 890 central laws have come into force there. Whatever was denied to the people of Jammu and Kashmir for more than 70 years will be given to them. It has enabled that what Dr. Ambedkar had given for the SC/STs for the rest of the country is now available to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Nirmala Sitharaman presented a budget of 1.42 lakh crores for Jammu and Kashmir in the Lok Sabha. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget amid protests by some members, including Congress MP Manish Tewari, who sought more time to discuss the budget. Opposition members are opposing the Finance Minister’s motion seeking suspension of certain rules to allow Lok Sabha to hold discussions on the same day.
What were the laws under Article 370
According to Article 370, the state of Jammu and Kashmir got special rights. Jammu and Kashmir had a separate flag and a separate constitution. The permission of the state was necessary to make all laws except the subjects of defence, foreign and communication. The citizens of Jammu and Kashmir used to have dual citizenship. People from other states could not buy land in Jammu and Kashmir.
Article 370 used to give special status to Jammu and Kashmir, but it also hurt those fundamental rights of the constitution, which the constitution maker Babasaheb Ambedkar called the soul of the constitution. For 72 years, there was a gap of Article 370 between Jammu and Kashmir and the country, which was made history two years ago on this day and wrote the story of a new Kashmir.
