UP Elections: The Uttar Pradesh assembly elections have been completed and the results will be out tomorrow. Meanwhile, the EVM machine has once again come into the limelight. Raising the issue of EVMs, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has made serious allegations against the UP government. He said, “The administration is busy stealing votes to make BJP win. This is the last election of democracy, after which people will have to make a revolution.”
Exit polls were released on Monday after the voting ended in the state, in which BJP seems to be coming to power once again. In such a situation, BJP retaliated to Akhilesh’s allegations and said that, seeing his defeat, Akhilesh Yadav has become furious, due to which he is making various comments on EVMs.
Questions have been raised continuously on EVM
BJP may be making fun of Akhilesh Yadav’s allegations, but the question on EVMs was first raised by BJP itself. In 2009, when the BJP alliance did not get power, senior party leader LK Advani raised questions on EVMs. The BJP had also campaigned across the country during that time regarding fraud with EVMs.
Many parties including BJP, Congress, RJD have raised questions on EVMs
Let us tell you, BJP has not been the only party which has raised questions on EVMs. From Congress to RJD, BSP, TMC and now the SP party has been seen continuously raising questions on EVMs. In the year 2009, after the Biju Janata Dal came to power in Odisha, the Congress had questioned the EVMs. Congress had said that there is no one else but EVM machine behind the formation of Naveen Patnaik’s government in the state. At the same time, in the 2014 Assam Lok Sabha elections, BJP formed the government, after which TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, including Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, questioned the EVMs.
Delhi’s ruling party Aam Aadmi Party had also presented the trial of EVMs in the state assembly. Arvind Kejriwal has demanded many times to hold ballot paper elections instead of EVMs. At the same time, after the formation of the BJP government in the year 2017, BSP chief Mayawati had accused EVMs of tampering. He had even said that BSP has not been defeated by BJP but by EVM machine.
Election Commission’s reply
At the same time, regarding the questions raised on EVMs, the Election Commission said that the EVM of its country is completely different from the EVM machine used in other countries. He said that EVMs cannot be hacked here.
