Punjab Assembly Election 2022 Result: The Aam Aadmi Party won 92 seats in the 117-member Punjab assembly, while the Congress was reduced to 18 seats. AAP also wiped out the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party alliance. SAD got three seats while BJP got two and BSP got only one seat. Many heavyweights including Channi, Parkash Singh Badal and Amarinder Singh had to face defeat in the assembly elections.
After the defeat, Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Badal has said that we accept the decision of the people. We will hold a meeting to introspect the results. Sukhbir Singh Badal says that we will support the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab, because his party has given the worst performance so far in the elections. The number of seats of Akali Dal in the state has come down to three.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Friday submitted his resignation to Governor Banwarilal Purohit after the defeat of the Congress in Punjab. Channi-led cabinet has recommended the dissolution of the assembly, paving the way for formation of the Aam Aadmi Party-led government.
