After a resounding victory in the Punjab Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is now eyeing the West Bengal Panchayat elections to be held next year. The AAP on Monday announced that it will contest the 2023 panchayat elections in West Bengal and has started campaigning for it. West Bengal’s AAP in-charge Sanjay Basu said, “Aam Aadmi Party will contest the 2023 Panchayat elections in West Bengal. On the instructions of the party high command, the local unit has already started its campaign. There was also a rally in Kolkata.”
In an official release on Monday, the West Bengal AAP said, “On March 13, the Aam Aadmi Party women’s wing organized a state convention in Kolkata. In the next six months, the wing has been constituted to further strengthen it up to the block level. Delhi’s central observers have chosen five people, who will coordinate with all other office bearers of the party in each district of West Bengal.
Apart from West Bengal, AAP will also field in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, where polling will be held in November this year. A source said, “As far as Himachal is concerned, it borders Punjab, where AAP has just won the assembly elections. AAP is hopeful that the Punjab wave will reach Himachal Pradesh as well. ” AAP has created history by winning 92 seats in the Punjab Assembly elections and Bhagwant Mann will be the next CM of Punjab. Fighting AAP’s panchayat elections will directly pit Arvind Kejriwal’s party against Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC), as both the parties are keen to expand the party at the national level. Both of them fought the Goa elections at a time when CM Mamata Banerjee was calling upon the opposition parties to unite against the BJP.
Regarding AAP’s entry in Bengal politics, BJP leader Samik Bhattacharya said, “We have seen AAP when they came to Bengal. At that time they could not assemble the workers and left. This is a democratic country. People Has the right to contest elections from anywhere, but it is useless as there is no count in Bengal. What happened to Mamata Banerjee in Goa? Her rivals were independent candidates. Same will happen with AAP in Bengal.”
