Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on the 37th Foundation Day of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on Friday that central agencies should also join the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS) for effective policing. Amit Shah said that the CBI, NIA and NCB should also link the details of their FIR on the CCTNS portal. The Union Minister asked Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who was present in the program, to hold a meeting with the heads of all central agencies in this regard.
Describing NCRB data as “arms and legs” to “mind and state police organisation”, Home Minister Amit Shah directed NCRB chief Vivek Gogia to focus on utilization of NCRB data and its use in a better way. Shah said, “NCRB is doing well in data collection. Now is the time to use its data to curb crime. NCRB data will be useful when states use it properly.”
“The data should be used by all states to formulate an annual strategy for their police force. It should have a multi-pronged, multi-purpose use for crime control,” he said. The Home Minister also suggested the NCRB Director to speak to the Director Generals of Police of the State and tell them how to use the details present in the NCRB data.
The Home Minister said, “There is a challenging situation as criminals are getting more efficient in their activities, we need to work according to the changing scenario.” The Home Minister emphasized the need for a criminal justice system, which can be achieved only through a better law and order situation. He also stressed on maximum use of National Automatic Fingerprint Recognition.
