Gujarat Education Minister Jitu Vaghani made a big announcement. He said that from the academic year 2022-23, Bhagavad Gita will be taught to the students in the schools of the state. According to the Education Minister, in the first phase to include Indian culture and knowledge system in school education, the values and principles contained in Bhagavad Gita are being introduced in schools from class 6-12 onwards according to the understanding and interest of the children. Apart from this, there is a plan to include verses of Gita in the prayer as well.
Gujarat Education Minister Jitu Vaghani said that Bhagavad Gita will be introduced in text books in the form of story and text in classes VI to VIII. In class 9th to 12th, Bhagavad Gita will be introduced in the form of story and text in first language textbook. Key literature/study material (printed, audio-visual) will be provided for classes 6 to 12. It is planned to implement it from the next academic session.
Education Minister Jitu Vaghani said, “The text of Bhagavad Gita should be included in the prayer program of the school. Various competitions and creative activities based on Bhagavad Gita like Shlokagan, Shlokapurti, Vakrutva, Essay, Natya, Pictures, Quiz etc. are organized in schools. should be done.” Earlier, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced in December 2021 that verses of Bhagavad Gita would be taught to students in Haryana schools as well.
