BJP MLA from Kurseong in Darjeeling Hills Bishnu Prasad Sharma has demanded the creation of a new state by separating the North Bengal region from West Bengal. Bishnu Prasad Sharma, during the discussion on the budget of the Department of Home and Hill Affairs, claimed that there has been no development in North Bengal and creation of a new state is the only way to solve the problems of the people. “Those living in hilly areas have been deprived for a very long time. Various communities of North Bengal like Gorkhas, Rajbanshis, Adivasis have been denied basic facilities.
Suvendu Adhikari also accepted, development has not happened
He also said that BJP MLAs are being intimidated and terrorised. We want North Bengal to be a separate state so that our problems can be solved. Later BJP’s Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari also claimed that the people of Pahari and North Bengal have been deprived for a long time. At the same time, the minister and TMC leader Firhad has also given his reaction on this statement. He has called it an anti-national demand and has demanded action against Bishnu Prasad Sharma.
The demand for a separate state has arisen many times
Let us tell you that the demand for a separate state has not come up for the first time in West Bengal. Even before this, many leaders or organizations have demanded a separate state regarding other parts of this state. In these, the demand for making Gorkhaland, Kamtapur and Greater Cooch Behar separate states has been raised many times.
