Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has tendered his resignation on Saturday after the results of Goa Assembly elections were declared. He has given this resignation to pave the way for the formation of a new government in the state. The BJP won 20 seats in the 40-member assembly in the Goa assembly elections. And it is the single largest party in Goa right now.
At present, after the resignation of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai has accepted his resignation, while the Governor has asked him to continue as caretaker Chief Minister till the formation of the new government. Regarding meeting the Governor, BJP MLA Vishwajit Rane said that ‘I met the Governor of Goa today. It was purely a personal courtesy call, nothing political in it. At present, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, after tendering his resignation to Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai at the Raj Bhavan, said that his resignation has been accepted, along with that he has been appointed as the caretaker chief minister of the state till ‘alternative arrangements’ are made.
Regarding the resignation of Pramod Sawant, the Governor said, ‘It has been a tradition in India that after the mandate, the Chief Minister submits his resignation and alternative arrangements are made. Till such arrangements are in place, I am appointing him (Sawant) as caretaker chief minister. Meanwhile, after meeting the governor, Sawant told reporters, “The governor has given me the appointment letter of the caretaker chief minister.”
