Expressing disappointment over the Supreme Court’s decision regarding One Rank One Pension, the Congress has accused the Modi government of betraying the ex-servicemen. Party’s national media in-charge Randeep Surjewala said that today a mountain of tragedy has broken for more than 30 lakh ex-servicemen. The Supreme Court rejected the petition of ex-servicemen related to One Rank One Pension. The Modi government had opposed the petition. This is a betrayal of the soldiers. BJP and Modi government takes votes in the name of soldiers but opposes them one rank one pension.
Surjewala said that the decision of one rank one pension was taken by the UPA government of Congress, which was made one rank five pension by the Modi government. Surjewala alleged that the central government did not present the facts related to the order issued by the UPA government in the court.
According to Surjewala, between 2004 and 2014, the UPA government increased the pension of ex-servicemen three times and gave them a benefit of 7 thousand crores. In the budget of February 17, 2014, Finance Minister P Chidambaram announced the implementation of One Rank One Pension according to the Koshyari Committee. On 26 February 2014, Defense Minister AK Antony held a meeting with the Chief of the three Services, Defense Secretary and other officials. In this it was decided that all officers retiring from one rank would get equal pension. All ex-servicemen will get the benefit of increased pension.
Surjewala said that on November 7, 2015, the Modi government issued a new order and made OROP one rank, five pension. Those who took premature retirement were excluded from it. Whereas 46% of soldiers retire prematurely. Attacking the Modi government, Surjewala said, was OROP also an election jumla? Surjewala demanded that the government should implement OROP according to the decision of the Congress government.
