Senior Congress leader Manish Tewari has congratulated Bhagwant Mann for becoming the CM of Punjab. Congratulating Bhagwant Mann, he took a dig at colleague and outgoing Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, saying that he was invited to the swearing-in ceremony of his successor Bhagwant Mann, but Channi’s invitation was not received.
Manish Tiwari said in a tweet that I congratulate Bhagwant Mann on taking oath as the Chief Minister. He told in the tweet that he has been invited. He said, “I thank him for inviting me to his swearing-in. I will not be able to come there as the house is in session.” He said that it is ironic that I was not invited to the swearing-in ceremony of Charanjit Singh Channi, although he was one of my MLAs.

I thank him for inviting me to his swearing in .
Due to Parliament being in session I will not be able to make it.

Manish Tewari is a Lok Sabha MP from Anandpur Sahib, Punjab. Last month, there were sharp attacks between Manish Tewari and Charanjit Singh Chinni over the ‘Bhaiyya controversy’. Manish Tewari had criticized Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s ‘bhaiya’ remark. He had said that this reflects an unfortunate systemic and institutionalized social prejudice against migrants. Tiwari compared it to discrimination against blacks in America and said that it is similar to the black issue in America. He had said that ‘Eh Bhaiya Kithon Aga’ is said like a derogatory word in Punjabi.
Channi’s remarks during an election rally in Punjab
Let us tell you that during an election rally in Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi had remarked that the people of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar were not allowed to enter the state by calling them ‘bhaiya’. Controversy arose over this. Later, Channi clarified the matter by saying that his statement was being misinterpreted. He said that this remark was for the leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party and not for the workers of Bihar and UP.
