In the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections-2022, Congress managed to win only 2 seats. The graph of the Congress, which captured 7 seats in 2017, is falling election after election in the state. Its vote share has fallen to 2.35 percent. In the 2017 election, it was 6.25 percent. Congress used to be the largest party in UP at one time. She was in power for a long time, but for three decades she has not tasted victory.
The two seats that have come in the account of Congress in this election are Rampur Khas and Farenda. In Rampur Khas, Aradhana Mishra defeated Nagesh Pratap Singh of BJP by more than 14 thousand votes. Aradhana Mishra got 84334 votes while Nagesh Pratap got 69593 votes. Talking about vote share, Aradhana Mishra got 50.27 percent votes. Nagesh Pratap got 41.49 percent votes.
Virendra Chaudhary wins in Farenda
At the same time, Virendra Chaudhary defeated Bajrang Bahadur Singh of BJP by 1087 votes in Farenda. Virendra Chaudhary got 85181 votes and Bajrang Bahadur got 83935 votes. The Congress also fared poorly in its strongholds Amethi and Rae Bareli. She could not win a single seat here. Party’s state president Ajay Kumar Lallu also could not win. Congress’ election campaign was led by the party’s national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who for the past three decades held meetings and road shows across the state in an effort to revive the party.
Priyanka’s campaign was centered around the slogan ‘I can fight the girl’. The party came up with a new experiment of issuing a separate manifesto for women. Congress had also given 40% of the tickets in this election to women.
