Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group meeting was held today after the election results of five states. In this meeting, the Congress leaders reviewed the defeat in the elections as well as discussed the measures for the betterment of the party, as well as there was a churning to conduct the election of the new president of the Congress before the scheduled time.
According to ANI sources, during this time the leaders of the party’s ‘G23’ group suggested Mukul Wasnik to be the next Congress President for the post of the new Congress President. However, this suggestion was not accepted by the Congress Working Committee.
G-23 meeting was held at Ghulam Nabi’s house
It is worth noting that in the elections of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur, Congress was expected to perform better in 4 states except UP. But this did not happen. The party could not win seats anywhere to form the government. With the results of the assembly elections, the G-23, a group of disgruntled Congress leaders, became active.
On Friday, a meeting of these leaders was held at the house of Ghulam Nabi Azad. In this, there was discussion on holding the election of the party president immediately and taking other organizational reform measures. In view of this camp, the top leadership of the Congress decided to convene a meeting of the Working Committee to review the defeat.
Adhir Ranjan denies need for leadership reshuffle in Congress
While Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury mentioned these points, he also said that there is no need for any reshuffle in the top leadership of the party as Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi are making “all-hearted efforts”. Another party leader and eminent lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi called for “restructuring” for expected results in future elections and stressed on organizational elections scheduled later this year. However, he too denied the need for any change in the top leadership.
