Once again BJP government is being formed in Uttarakhand. According to the trends, BJP is leading in 47, Congress 19 and other 4 seats. If the trends change in the results, then with this victory, BJP will become the first party to occupy the power of Uttarakhand for two consecutive terms. Before this, the people here have not formed the government of any party for two consecutive terms. Let us have a look at what are the reasons for this historic victory of BJP in the state.
1- Change of CM at the right time- Before the assembly elections, BJP handed over the power of the state to Pushkar Singh Dhami. Dhami was made the Chief Minister of the state after Trivendra Singh Rawat and Tirath Singh Rawat. Pushkar Singh Dhami was the third Chief Minister of BJP in the last 5 years. Dhami was chosen to compensate for the poor performance of the last two chief ministers. Many party leaders openly admitted that the BJP would not have been able to return to power if either of the previous two chief ministers had been allowed to complete the five-year term.
2- The Modi factor has worked- BJP had hoped that like 2017 this time too the Modi factor would work in the state. The party believes that Prime Minister Narendra Modi played an important role in Uttarakhand’s victory in 2017 and remained the same this time as well. Political experts say that there was an atmosphere of anti-incumbency against the BJP by making three chief ministers in five years, but the factor of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has managed to reduce it to some extent.
In the election campaign, BJP leaders asked people to vote in the name of Modi. In his rallies, more than half of the speeches used to refer to the development projects initially undertaken in the state under the leadership of PM Modi. State BJP Vice President Devendra Bhasin said that Modi is our biggest icon. This is a factor that has always worked for the BJP. He said that he is the first Prime Minister who visited the state so many times.
3- Double engine slogan- BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the slogan of double engine government in the election rallies of Uttarakhand. PM Modi said in many of his rallies that there should be a double engine government for the development of Uttarakhand. He said that the development of the state is in the priority of the double engine government and will continue to do so. Seeing the crowd in the election rallies, PM Modi had said that the people of the state have made up their mind that they want a double engine government.
4- Weak opposition- One of the major reasons for BJP’s victory was the weakening of the opposition. The Congress had no face to match the experience of PM Modi and the youthful spirit of Pushkar Singh Dhami. While BJP contested on the face of Pushkar Singh Dhami, Congress did not even announce the name of the chief ministerial candidate. Before the elections, the displeasure of veteran leader and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat had also come to the fore. Just before the elections, the battle within the party came in front of the public, which directly benefited the BJP.
5- PM Modi’s experience and Pushkar Singh Dhami’s youthful enthusiasm- Prime minister Narendra Modi It’s been a long time since I was in politics. He was the Chief Minister of Gujarat for 12 years and has held the post of Prime Minister for 8 years. Even when BJP got a huge victory in Uttarakhand in 2017, PM Modi had a big role. BJP used his experience fiercely and in the current politics of the country, a star campaigner like him is not seen in any party. Apart from the experience of PM Modi, the youth leadership of Pushkar Singh Dhami also benefited the BJP. Pushkar Singh Dhami’s age is 46 years. He is one of the star youth leaders of the state. BJP sees the future in him only then he was entrusted with such a big responsibility.
