Uttarakhand Congress Committee president Ganesh Godiyal resigned from the post on Tuesday, taking moral responsibility for the party’s defeat in the recent assembly elections. Today itself, Congress President Sonia Gandhi had asked the chiefs of the state units of the electoral states to step down so that the State Congress Committee can be reconstituted.
Godiyal tweeted his resignation saying, “Taking moral responsibility for the party’s defeat in the state assembly elections, today I have submitted my resignation. I wanted to resign on the day of the result but waited for the order of the high command.

In another tweet, Godiyal said, “As soon as I reached Delhi today and came to know that the accountable office bearers of all other states, where the elections did not get the expected success, are resigning from their posts, I also submitted my resignation.” I will continue to fight as a Congress worker.”
Congress has suffered a crushing defeat in the Uttarakhand assembly elections. It got only 19 seats in the 70-member assembly, while the BJP retained power by winning 47 seats.
Who has command in which state?
In Punjab, Navjot Singh Sidhu is carrying the responsibility of the post of Congress State President. Ajay Kumar Lallu is the head of PCC in UP. In Goa, Girish Chodankar was the PCC President, who resigned from his post after the defeat of the Congress in Goa. In Manipur, Nameirakpaim Loken Singh is on the post of state president.
