India on Tuesday sent the third consignment of aid to Afghanistan as humanitarian aid. This time India has sent two thousand metric tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan via Pakistan. India had sent 2500 metric tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan via Pakistan on 22 February, which reached Jalalabad city on 26 February. Earlier this month too, India had dispatched the second consignment of 2000 metric tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted, “Our tireless efforts continue to support the people of Afghanistan. Today the third consignment of 2000 metric tonnes of wheat was dispatched to Jalalabad city of Afghanistan.

“This is part of India’s commitment to send 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan to be distributed under the United Nations World Food Program,” he said.
On October 7 last year, India had sent a proposal to Pakistan to allow 50,000 tonnes of wheat to be transported to Afghanistan by its road, to which the neighboring country responded positively on November 24. After this, both the countries were in close contact to determine the modalities for sending the wheat consignment to Afghanistan.
