Delhi MCD Election 2022: A new war has erupted between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and BJP over the announcement of the dates for the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections (MCD Elections) in the national capital of the country. Today, after postponing the announcement of election dates, AAP’s convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has held a press conference and accused the Modi government of postponing the election by writing a letter. Kejriwal has said that it is not right that the Election Commission should bow down before the Centre. If we postpone elections by pressurizing the Election Commission, it weakens the Election Commission, it weakens the country. Union Minister and BJP MP from New Delhi Meenakshi Lekhi has retaliated on these allegations of Kejriwal.
What did Meenakshi Lekhi say?
Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi has said, “I want to ask Kejriwal ji whether a city can survive without the Municipal Corporation, which he has started the process of removing his power to destroy the Municipal Corporation.” He said, “In the year 2012, when they came after elections, they had promised that when they are elected, they will give 20% share of the budget to the local body, but 7-8% share which is being given to the municipal corporation. A mistake is being made in that too.
Kejriwal Ji made a fake promise in 2012 that he will give 20% of the budget to local bodies, but even the 7-8% of budget which is being given to the municipalities is being scammed with… Isn’t this against municipality reforms?: MoS MEA Meenakshi Lekhi, in Delhi pic.twitter.com/5IWMjD7vqx

What has Arvind Kejriwal said?
CM Kejriwal said, “This will happen for the first time in the history of India, when the Center has directly asked the Election Commission to postpone the elections. Things are going on in the minds of people. There is a BJP government for the last 8 years, if they had to unify the corporations, then why didn’t they do it till now? The elections should be postponed. Unifying the corporations is an excuse, they had to postpone the elections. BJP knew that if elections are held this time, it will be defeated in our wave. People are also saying that what does elections have to do with holding corporations together. The three corporations are different, the counselors also sit at different places, so let the elections be held, they will all start sitting at one place. All this is not good for the country.
In fact, the dates for the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections were to be announced on Wednesday, however, at the last moment, the Election Commission did not announce the dates by calling a press conference and referred to a letter from the Center and also expressed the hope of uniting the three corporations.
