Bommai said, “I just came to know through the media about the High Court order regarding the matter related to uniform in the classroom. The court upheld the uniform and said that wearing the hijab was not a necessary religious practice.
“Everyone should abide by the decision of a three-judge bench of the High Court. Everyone should cooperate and maintain peace in the implementation of the government. It is most important to maintain peace and order in the society. I appeal to the people of all communities, leaders, parents, teachers and students to accept the order and cooperate in providing education to the students as per the order of the court.
The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed the petitions of a section of Muslim girl students of ‘Government Pre-University Girls College’ in Udupi seeking permission to wear the hijab in class. The three-judge bench said that the school uniform rule is a reasonable restriction and constitutionally permissible to which the girl students cannot raise objections. Chief Minister Bommai also called upon the girl students not to boycott classes and examinations keeping in mind their future.
In response to a question, he said that keeping in mind the peace and order, police forces have been deployed. Everyone should abide by the court’s decision and if anyone tries to take the law into their own hands, the home department will take strict action.
