Legislative Council elections: Dr. Kafeel Khan was nominated by Akhilesh Yadav’s party as the candidate

Dr. Kafeel Khan, a famous doctor of Gorakhpur, has been nominated by the Samajwadi Party in the elections to be held for the Deoria-Kushinagar Local Bodies Legislative Council. Dr. Kafeel was suspended on the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi in connection with the death of children in Gorakhpur’s BRD Hospital. Kafeel Khan will file his nomination on Monday. He met Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav today and presented a book written on Gorakhpur Hospital Tragedy.

The 100-member Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council currently has 35 members from the BJP, 17 from the SP and four from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Congress, Apna Dal (Sonelal) and Nishad Party have one member each in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. At present 37 seats are vacant.

According to the returning officer, the 36 seats of the Upper House are spread over 35 local authority constituencies, where simultaneous polls will be held on April 9 and counting of votes will take place on April 12. The term of the members who won from the local authority constituency had ended on March 7.
