In Madhya Pradesh, many villages of Dindori district are already facing severe water crisis. The latest case is of Domdadar village of Shahpura assembly constituency, where the villagers are compelled to chant for water. At night, the villagers stand in a queue near the well and wait for their turn.
There is a competition among the villagers to fill the little water that accumulates in the well between evening and night. The one who reaches near the well first in the night gets water and the villagers who reach later have to quench their thirst with dirty and muddy water. There is a hand pump in the village school, which produces only two to three buckets of water. Villagers say that they have complained many times about the problem of water from Gram Panchayat to Collector and from Santri to Minister, but till now no one has taken care of them.
SDM Kajal Jawla gave assurance
At the same time, when the media persons talked to Shahpura SDM Kajal Jawla regarding this matter, he took the matter seriously and assured to solve the problem soon. Apart from this, the MP and the Union Minister of State in the Panchayat and Rural Development Department were seen shunning their responsibilities by talking roundly. The villagers of Domdadar village work hard during the day and instead of resting at night, wait for the water to collect after the leak in the well and then their whole night is spent in juggling water.
Women, children and elders take all empty utensils and wait in the well in the hope of water, most of the villagers have to return after waiting for hours with empty utensils because there is not enough water left in the well to drown the bucket. The villagers tell that in the month of April-May, they also bring beds along with utensils and they sleep near the well waiting for water. Villagers say that there has been a shortage of water in their village for centuries, at the time of elections, politicians and officials come to their village and take votes by giving false assurances.
Villagers forced to gherao government offices
In Dindori district, in the beginning of summer, villagers made a blockade due to water crisis, while at some places the villagers were forced to gherao government offices with empty utensils. In the beginning of summer, when there are these conditions of water crisis, then how terrible the situation will be in the coming days, which can be easily guessed. Despite this, the employees of the PHE department and the district administration, who raise the slogan of water is life, remain mute spectators.
