India’s first woman Rafale fighter jet pilot Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh said on Tuesday that the machine does not differentiate between men and women. Lt. Shivangi Singh said that he has taken the same training as his male colleagues as the machines do not differentiate between genders. During an interview with ANI of 17 Squadron based in Ambala on the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8, Shivangi Singh said that the experience of becoming a fighter pilot has been an exciting and satisfying experience. Combat training was tough but I worked hard for it. I was given the same training as my other male colleagues.

Rafale fighter jet pilot Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh further said that the machine does not recognize gender, it works according to the given input. I think hard work pays more. Shivangi Singh said that she has always received good support from fellow officers, men and women. Being a fighter pilot, I feel very proud and I will try to do my best for the country. Describing his life before joining the Indian Air Force, he said that he hails from Varanasi and represented the country in the Foreign Exchange Program in Bangladesh as a National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadet.

Lt. Shivangi Singh further informed that he has played basketball till the national level and has represented his state in javelin throw. It has been an exciting journey so far. Shivangi Singh was a part of the Indian Air Force (IAF) tableau during the 73rd Republic Day parade. She is the only second woman fighter jet pilot to be a part of the IAF’s tableau. Shivangi Singh has the distinction of being selected as the first woman fighter pilot on Rafale aircraft. Rafale came to the defense forces from France in 2020 and is considered to be the most powerful fighter plane in its class in the entire Asian region.
