A flight in the largest passenger aircraft in the world, the Airbus A380, can become a challenge in Economy Class. Finally, the cabin is shared with many – sometimes over 600 – other people. But sometimes the seat configuration offers a small way out of the sardine can. Namely, if Economy Class seats are offered in the upper deck. We have listed for you all the airlines that have an A380 in their fleet and also offer economy class in the upper deck.
This post is aimed at those of you who will take a flight in the Airbus A380 and are booked in Economy Class. Some may be afraid of having to take an economy class flight in the A380. After all, not everyone can choose the flight and the travel time and thus also the aircraft. The business travel regulations send greetings. In the lower deck of the Airbus A380, passengers generally expect between 30 and 40 rows of seats seated with a 3-4-3 configuration. Basically, this seat configuration is not exceptional in long-haul aircraft and the three dozen rows of seats are also usually divided into two or three sections. Nevertheless, a certain hustle and bustle can arise here and almost every traveler prefers to sit in a row of two instead of three, which of course applies especially if you travel as a couple. Exactly such two-series can be found in almost all A380s in the slightly narrower upper deck. Depending on the airbus a380 seat map, there are a few rows with economy seating in a 2-4-2 arrangement in the (mostly rear) upper deck.
Are these airlines still using the Airbus A380?
The history of the Airbus A380 probably does not go down in the annals of aviation as a success story. Nevertheless, he remains an impressive sight and exerts – at least on me – a special charm. First of all, we can clarify the question of which airlines still own the largest passenger aircraft after the corona crisis and can therefore offer economy class in the upper deck at all. A total of nine airlines have the Airbus A380 in their fleet and still use it in flight operations. Qatar Airways has only temporarily recovered the Superjumbo, as half of its A350 fleet is currently grounded. There are regular rumors that Etihad Airways is reactivating the A380, this has not yet happened or been announced.
- All Nippon Airways
- Asian Airlines
- British Airways
- Emirates (three versions)
- Korean Air
- Lufthansa
- Qantas (two versions)
- Qatar Airways
- Singapore Airlines (two versions)
Emirates, which by the way received the last A380 ever built, has a total of three different configurations of the Airbus A380, excluding the few aircraft that have just received a Premium Economy Class. Of these, two versions offer three-class seating (First/Business/Economy) and one version offer two-class seating (Business/Economy). A380 first customer Singapore Airlines is currently converting all remaining aircraft. Therefore, there are currently two versions titled by Singapore Airlines as follows: A380 retrofit and A380-newconfig. All two versions offer a total of four travel classes (First/Business/Premium Economy/Economy). Qantas also has two versions.
Economy Class in the upper deck – Conclusion
An economy class seat remains an economy class seat even in the upper deck, so the mouse does not bite off a thread. Many travelers may not care where they sit. For my part, I always take a close look at the seating plans before the flight and Find the Best Airline Seats for me in Economy Class or to escape the monotony of the seat configurations. Therefore, it can also be interesting to change location or have a little more peace. Because not everyone can always afford to book Business Class on long distances and some of you may also be prohibited by the travel policy.
