Khatkar Kalan village located in Nawanshahr district of Punjab is said to be the ancestral village of great freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. This village is about one kilometer away from Jalandhar-Chandigarh Highway. It is said that Bhagat Singh himself never lived in Khatkar Kalan village. Bhagat Singh’s family had settled here after coming from Pakistan after partition. Bhagat Singh’s mother Vidyavati and nephews and nieces had settled here. At present, the house of Shaheed Bhagat Singh in Khatkar Kalan is with the Archaeological Department and Nawanshahr District Administration.
Bhagwant Mann has appealed to all the people to reach Khatkar Kalan in large numbers on 16th March. He has urged the people that men should wear Basanti Turban and women wear Basanti Chadar. He has announced that Khatkar Kalan will be painted in Basanti color on that day.
