After which the majestic Tulip Garden, built on the banks of Dal Lake in the summer capital here, will be opened to the general public on 23 March.
This garden was closed for tourists for more than two years due to COVID-19 and now it is expected that this time a large number of people will come here to see the flowers blooming. This time tourists will be mesmerized by 50 varieties of 1.5 million flowers including tulips in the garden! Farooq Ahmed Rather, director of the Department of Floriculture, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, said that the Tulip Garden will be opened to the general public from March 23. “Keeping in mind the pleasant weather in the beginning of March, the garden will be opened from March 23.”
About 2 lakh tourists every year
Let us tell that in every season 1.50 to 2 lakh people come to see the Tulip Garden. The garden, spread over 30 acres, attracts domestic and international tourists to be mesmerized by the colorful flowers. The number of visitors to the park is expected to increase as the park will be kept open till mid-April! Many species of flowers have been planted in the tulip garden, in which tulip is the main crop growing on seven hectares of land. In addition to tulips, other bulbous materials grown in the garden include hyacinths, narcissus, daffodils, muscaria, and iris. The development of a water channel and a Japanese ornamental cherry theme garden with an avenue inside the garden are some other attractions to attract tourists.
Apart from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, North India and several southern states, a large number of locals are also expected to visit the Tulip Garden, the official said. A music festival will be organized in the garden every season to attract more tourists. Officials said that the Tulip Garden has also been decorated with lights to attract tourists to the Tulip Garden in the evening.
Very famous Tulip Garden
The tourism department organized a 15-day music festival in the garden two years ago, while visitors could also shop from the many stalls built inside the garden by JKTDC, handicrafts department and others. The Tulip Garden was included in the “Top Five Tulip Destinations” in the world by the World Tulip Summit Society during its summit held in Canada in 2017. Tulip Gardens got this recognition after competing with 17 countries including the US, Japan, Turkey, Holland, UK and China at the 7th World Tulip Summit held in the Canadian capital Ottawa on October 7, 2017. Earlier in 2015, Tulip Garden was rated as the second best tulip destination in the world by the same society at an event held in South Korea.
