Voting is going on for the last phase in Uttar Pradesh today. Voting is taking place in total 54 assembly constituencies of Purvanchal spread over 9 districts in the state. As much enthusiasm is visible in the youth to use their authority, the same is being seen in the elders and also in the elderly. Some pictures have been seen in which even after being ill, the elderly have reached the booth to vote.
In Azamgarh, an elderly man along with his wife and a disabled woman reached the polling station by pulling a handcart. Talking to the media during this, he said, “I have back problem and my wife’s health is also not well. That’s why we have come to vote using this vehicle. He further said, we have no hope.” Can Rs 500, 1000 (given by the state) fix us?
At the same time, another picture was seen where, 94-year-old Mangeshwari Devi and 91-year-old Lalli Devi exercised their franchise in Ghazipur assembly constituency. He told that, since independence, he has voted every time till now. Both the elderly women posed for their picture in which the elderly person sitting in a wheelchair showed the vote mark on his finger.
Let us tell you, the districts where voting is going on in the last phase are Azamgarh, Mau, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Mirzapur, Bhadohi and Sonbhadra. A total of 613 candidates are trying their luck in 54 seats in this phase, which includes about 2.06 crore voters, 11 reserved for Scheduled Castes and two for Scheduled Tribes. This last phase is also a test of alliances of both the BJP and the Samajwadi Party with smaller caste-based parties.
