What is the meaning of defeat of Congress in five states? Congress’s challenge increased with AAP’s victory
Election Result 2022: After the election results of UP, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur came out, troubles have increased for the Congress. Congress had to face defeat in all the five states. The tsunami of Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party ousted the Congress from power in Punjab. In the remaining four states, the Congress was already out of power, but in Punjab it did not expect such a thing about its party’s performance. The results of the assembly elections in all the five states came as a setback for the Congress. The Congress was hoping to do well to revive its prospects for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections of 2024 and to replace the emerging challenge from the Aam Aadmi Party and the Trinamool Congress, but it did not materialise.
More challenge for Congress
The Congress was the main rival of the ruling BJP in Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur and was expected to turn the wind in the electoral effort in electorally crucial Uttar Pradesh led by party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Congress leaders also took a strong stand against agricultural laws, which were eventually repealed by the central government. The party was reduced to a historic low in Uttar Pradesh. Now here it has become more difficult if not impossible to strengthen the party again. The rise of the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab is another worrying sign for the Congress. Now it has become a big challenge for the Congress to save the party from the historic victory of the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab and the defeat of many big Congress leaders including Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and State Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Difficulty for Congress in 2024 general elections?
With its success in Punjab, the leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party are trying to make their party emerge as a national and a replacement for the Congress. Party leaders also believe that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be the BJP’s main rival in future. AAP leader Raghav Chadha has talked about Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that if people give a chance, he will be in a big role of Prime Minister in 2024. Trinamool Congress leaders want to see West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the role and have spoken of the need for broader opposition unity against the BJP. He has met leaders of Shiv Sena and NCP and also held talks with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, along with competition, the need for churning in the opposition is also felt.
Is AAP and TMC an alternative to Congress?
Both the Aam Aadmi Party and the Trinamool Congress are poised to be seen as major rivals to the BJP. The BSP’s defeat in the UP assembly elections also points to the party’s declining strength and an increasingly bipolar relationship between the BJP and the Samajwadi Party-led alliances in the state. According to news agency ANI, Congress will soon hold a meeting of its working committee to analyze the election results. Rahul Gandhi, who lost the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi and won from Wayanad, said on Thursday that the Congress will learn from the election results and will continue to work for the interests of the people of the country.
