Justice Dalveer Bhandari, born on October 1, 1947, has also been a former judge of the Supreme Court. Apart from this, he has also been a judge of Delhi High Court and former Chief Justice of Bombay High Court. Justice Dalveer Bhandari’s father Mahavir Chandra Bhandari, grandfather BC Bhandari have been part of the Rajasthan Bar. He holds a degree in Humanities and Law from Jodhpur University. After this, he practiced in the Rajasthan High Court from 1968 to 1970.
In the year 1970, he was called for a 6-week workshop organized by the University of Chicago for research on Indian law. Earlier in 2012 also he had been a judge of the International Court of Justice. After this, he was again appointed as a judge of the International Court of Justice on 20 November 2017. He got 183 votes out of 193. This is his second term. He defeated Christopher Greenwood of Britain. He will remain in this post for 9 years.
He is also in the discussion because India has so far maintained neutrality in the Ukraine-Russia war. But Dalveer Bhandari’s stand on the issue of Ukraine was opposite from that of the Indian government. Earlier, India had also distanced itself from voting in the UN on the censure motion against Russia.
The Supreme Court of the United Nations on Wednesday ordered Russia to stop the war in Ukraine. Although many people doubt that Russia will follow it. Two weeks ago, Ukraine requested the International Court of Justice’s intervention, arguing that Russia violated the 1948 Genocide Treaty by falsely accusing it of genocide and attacked it under the guise of genocide. .
US Judge John E. Donoghue, the president of the court, said, “The Russian Federation should immediately stop the military operation that started on February 24, 2022.” Those countries who refuse to obey the order of this court, their case is sent to the United Nations Security Council, where Russia has the right of veto.
