Speaker Om Birla has shown strictness on the MPs who disappeared from the house by speaking. Speaker Birla barred Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman from answering questions of missing members of the House. At the time when the speaker showed this strictness, the discussion on the budget of Jammu and Kashmir was going on in the Lok Sabha.
During the discussion, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was replying to the debate on the budget for 2022-23 and the supplementary demands for grants for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for 2021-22. Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that he will also talk to the parties about the missing MPs by raising the issue of discussion in the House.
The speaker said that the minister need not react on the issue as the members are not present. I have seriously thought about the MPs who do not live in the House. Don’t give any answer. I will also tell their parties that they should not be allowed to participate in the discussion during the debate.”
Om Birla said that even political parties should not give a chance to the members who disappear by speaking in the House. He said that the Speaker has expressed displeasure over the absence of members in the House in the past as well. This time Birla has given strict arrangements for the missing members.
