Uttarakhand assembly election result has put the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a dilemma. In fact, after the defeat of the outgoing Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the party is considering several options. Dhami was expected to continue in the post in the event of BJP’s victory in the assembly elections. Although BJP retained power in the election results, Dhami lost the election.
BJP sources said Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Dharmendra Pradhan may be sent to the state as central observers to oversee the legislature party meeting to elect a new leader. No date has been set for the meeting yet.
There is talk in party circles about whether their top leaders will trust Dhami again, which will require a sitting MLA to give up his seat for Dhami so that he can contest again if a by-election is held. The BJP also has the option of electing any of its senior state leaders, who are currently not MLAs, for the post.
