A special bench of the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed all the petitions seeking directions for permission to wear hijab in school. The High Court also said that ‘wearing the hijab is not a mandatory part of Islam. The National Commission for Women has welcomed the decision to uphold the ban on hijab. Along with this, some message has also been given to the children.
National Commission for Women Chairperson Rekha Sharma said, “I am a strong supporter of women’s rights. I always say that women can wear anything, anywhere, but if there is a dress in an institution, it should be followed.” .Students should not be divided in religion,caste.I welcome the decision of Karnataka High Court.Where dress code is in force,all children should follow it.Children should go back to school and not fall into all this. Children have wasted a lot of time in all this and return to their studies.
High Court upholds ban on hijab
The Karnataka High Court has said that ‘Wearing Hijab is not a mandatory part of Islam. The bench said, “We are of the opinion that the wearing of hijab by Muslim women is not a compulsory practice in the Islamic faith. The fixation of school dress is only a reasonable restriction and is constitutionally permissible to which students cannot object. Our view That the government has the power to issue a government order dated 5th February 2022 (prohibiting hijab in school) and no case is made out for its invalidity.”
Karnataka CM warns of strict action against those who disturb peace
After the Karnataka High Court dismissed petitions of Muslim girls seeking permission to wear hijab in educational institutions, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday said strict action would be taken against those who disturb peace in the state. Upholding the government order, the court said that hijab is not a mandatory part of Islam. “It is a question of our children and it is also a question of their future,” he said.
Nothing is more important than education for children. Everyone should abide by the decision of the three-judge bench. He said that when the verdict is implemented, people should cooperate with the authorities.
