A day after PM Narendra Modi’s call to become self-reliant in the defense sector, news came that the process of getting CCS approval for the prototype design and model of the fifth generation indigenous fighter aircraft, Emka, has started. Because the 5th generation stealth fighter jets are very expensive, instead of buying from outside, India is preparing its own Emka. This information was laid on the table of Parliament by the Minister of State for Defense himself in response to a written question.
Minister of State for Defense Ajay Bhatt said in a written reply to a question asked by MP Shanta Kshatriya in the Rajya Sabha on Monday that the process of seeking approval of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) for the design and prototype model of Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (Emka) has been started.
The Minister of State for Defense told the Parliament that the 5th generation fighter aircraft are costlier than the fourth generation fighter aircraft due to very special features. Hence Emka (AMCA) is an indigenous fifth generation aircraft and that is why it is less expensive than similar types of aircraft available from outside source.
Let us tell you that in the CCS meeting on Sunday itself, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had ordered to take steps towards being self-reliant in the defense sector. The PM had clearly said that this will not only strengthen our security but will also help in our economic development.
This special CCS meeting was called by the PM to deal with the situation arising out of the situation of Ukraine war. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, NSA Ajit Doval were present in this meeting. Soon after the CCS, the PM also met the chiefs of the three wings of the Army, the Army, the Air Force and the Navy.
Recently, Army Chief General MM Naravane had also laid great emphasis on the manufacture of indigenous weapons, taking lessons from the Ukraine war. On March 11 i.e. on Friday itself, ABP News had shown an important news related to the construction of Emka in its special Bell Bajao show.
ABP News had reported that amidst the war between Russia-Ukraine, India has made a big flight towards making a fifth (5th) generation stealth fighter jet, ‘Emka’ in the series of indigenous fighter jets. DRDO and ADA have started manufacturing special material for Emka fighter aircraft based on the design. DRDO has called this step a milestone in the development of stealth fighter jets.
According to the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), the fabrication of the leading-edge Emka has started based on the material of the fifth generation design designed by the Aerospace Defense Agency (ADA). This work has started in HLA i.e. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The HAL unit in which the prototype of the Emka will be made will first undergo structural and other tests.
India showed the model to the world in February 2021
Emka i.e. Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft is India’s fifth class indigenous fighter aircraft. Last year in February 2021, India had shown the Emka’s design and model to the world for the first time at the Aero-India show. This model was introduced by the indigenous agency, Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA ie Ada) and DRDO, which designed the fighter aircraft. This will be India’s first two-engine fighter jet, due to its stealth features, it will be very difficult for enemy radar to catch it.
If India is successful in making Emka, then America will join the ranks of select countries including Russia and China, which will have the capability to make fifth generation fighter aircraft. Recently, the Chief of the Army Staff, General MM Naravane, had spoken of emphasizing on the manufacture of indigenous weapons, taking lessons from the Ukraine war.
Let us tell you that the stealth fighter jet’s body is made of such a special material, due to which it itself absorbs the waves of enemy radar and does not allow the radar to go back. Due to this, radars are not able to detect stealth fighter jets.
What will be the specialties of Emka of India
- This Emka fighter jet of India will be a multi-role fighter aircraft, which also has the ability to do close-combat dogfight with wide visual range ie BVR missile, precision strike capability.
- Apart from the stealth air-frame, it will also have AISA radar, netcentric warfare, advanced integrated sensor suite and sensor data fusion.
- It is believed that this fifth generation fighter jet of India will be ready by the year 2025 and will be part of the Air Force’s Fighting Squadron by the year 2030.
- America has F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning stealth fighter jets, while Russia has Sukhai-57. China also claims that it has a J-20 stealth fighter jet. But experts in defense affairs of the country and abroad have questioned the stealth features in J-20 (Chengdu-20).
- During the battle in air-space, the stealth fighter jet leads all the other fighters and is the first to enter the enemy’s territory.
