The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested six people of a gang allegedly involved in illegal smuggling of Rohingya Muslims into Indian territory. An NIA official gave this information on Saturday.
The official of the country’s top investigative agency said that this gang was active in the border areas of Assam, West Bengal, Meghalaya as well as other parts of the country. These six people arrested were part of a gang involved in illegal smuggling of Rohingya Muslims into Indian territory, the official said.
The accused have been identified as gang heads Kumkum Ahmed Choudhary alias KK Ahmed Choudhary alias Asikul Ahmed and Sahalam Laskar, Ahiya Ahmed Bapan Ahmed Choudhary and Jamaluddin Ahmed Chowdhury. A senior NIA official said on Friday that the case pertains to illegal smuggling of Rohingya Muslims to resettle in Indian territory on the basis of forged Indian identity documents.
Case registered under Section 370 and 370 (A)
The NIA had registered the case in December after receiving information in this regard. The case was registered under sections 370 and 370 (A) of IPC. The NIA said that Chaudhary, the mastermind of the racket, was operating this illegal smuggling network from Bangalore. Other active members of this racket are spread in different parts of the country. NIA officer said on Friday, today 6 accused including Chaudhary have been arrested. A large number of incriminating documents, articles and digital devices were seized during the searches conducted today. Further investigation is being done in this matter.
