Goa Election 2022: Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram on Tuesday said talks are on with his party and other opposition parties ahead of the counting of votes in Goa. Counting of votes for all 40 assembly seats in Goa will begin at 8 am on March 10. Chidambaram said in an interview to a news channel, “We are confident that the Goans have given us a clear majority. Today I am more confident than before because I have spoken to each and every candidate.”
“We are keen to work with other parties. Our goal is to create a non-BJP platform and these efforts are being made in other parts of India as well, so why not in Goa,” he said. Chidambaram’s remarks came after reports that Congress leaders are in touch with leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC).
‘Talking with leaders of other parties’
When asked whether he was also in talks with leaders of other parties, Chidambaram said, “Not me directly, but our leaders in Goa are talking to leaders of other parties.” “Obviously they are all friends. They all know each other. It (Goa) is a small place. They always meet on several occasions,” he said.
The party in-charge of Goa, Chidambaram said that the Congress candidates are loyal to their party. “Everyone takes an oath of allegiance. I see no doubt that whether they lose or win, every candidate will remain loyal to the party,” he said.
