Presidential Election 2022: After the assembly elections in five states, now the President of the country is to be elected this year. The BJP-led NDA is confident that only their chosen person will get a majority in the presidential election. But recently the equations have changed a bit with the elections of UP, Uttarakhand and other states. After which BJP may now have to resort to outside parties to choose the President of its choice.
Loss of seats for BJP in assembly elections
Every time in the presidential election, UP has the most important role, because the vote value of the MLAs elected from here is the highest. Because UP is the largest state in terms of population, the vote value of the state is also the highest. Even though BJP has once again formed the government in UP with a huge majority, but the party has lost many seats. Which can have a direct impact on the presidential election. This time BJP has lost 57 seats in UP. At the same time, 9 seats have got less in Uttarakhand. Earlier, where BJP was very close to the majority figure, now there is a slight difference in it.
What is the equation of vote value?
Now as we told you that UP plays the most important role in the presidential election, we tell you what are its equations. A total of 4120 members of the Legislative Assembly participate in the presidential election, while 776 parliamentary members participate in this voting. Nominated members of Rajya Sabha do not have the right to take part in this process. Now a value of all these votes is decided. This value depends on the population of the state. To calculate this value, the total population of the state is divided by 1000 and multiplied by the total number of MLAs. The number that comes out after this is the value of a legislator. Like the value of an MLA from UP is 208, while that of an MLA from Delhi is 58. Similarly, the vote value of MLAs is based on the population of other states. That is, the more MLAs the party has in UP, the more it will benefit in the presidential election.
Similarly, the value of votes of parliamentary members is also decided. But its formula is different. For this, the value of the total MLAs is divided by the total number of MPs. According to this, the vote value of an MP is 708. Including the value of MPs and MLAs, there are a total of 10,98,903 votes. Any of these candidates needs more than 50 percent of the votes to win.
BJP can get majority
However, even though the BJP seems to be moving away from the majority figure in the presidential election, but despite this, the BJP-led NDA can be successful in choosing its candidate. Because there are some parties outside the NDA, whose BJP can get support. At present, the NDA is about 1.2% away from the majority. Before the assembly elections, this distance was only 0.5 percent. It is being told that BJP can easily get majority by taking the support of Andhra Pradesh CM Jaganmohan Reddy and Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik’s party. At the same time, BJP is currently wanting that the President’s election should be done unopposed. President Ram Nath Kovind’s term will end in July this year, after which the next candidate for the post will be announced. However, at present, nothing has been said about the presidential election from the opposition side.
