Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was summoned by the Mumbai Police in the alleged illegal phone tapping case. BJP is continuously protesting against this. On the BJP’s performance, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday questioned why some people consider themselves above the law and why this ‘drama’ is being done. In a post on Twitter, Raut, a Rajya Sabha member, alleged that central agencies have in the past summoned several ministers and public representatives of Maharashtra in connection with the investigation of certain cases under “political vendetta”.
Shiv Sena’s chief spokesperson Raut said that there are no special rights for anyone in a democracy and everyone is equal in the eyes of law. A team of BKC Cyber Police had reached Fadnavis’s residence on Sunday to record his statement in the alleged phone tapping case. The police had issued a notice to Fadnavis in this regard on Saturday. BJP workers protested and burnt copies of notices in parts of Maharashtra on Sunday.
In South Mumbai, several BJP leaders including MLA Nitesh Rane, MLC Prasad Lad and Praveen Darekar also gathered outside Fadnavis’s residence. Raut tweeted in Marathi, “Why do some people and political parties consider themselves above the law? Central agencies summoned many ministers and public representatives of Maharashtra for investigation in the spirit of political vendetta and they appeared before the agencies. No one has any special rights in a democracy. All are equal before the law. Then why this drama?”
At the same time, Shiv Sena leader Aditya Thackeray in Mumbai also targeted the BJP fiercely. He claimed that the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra does not use state agencies like the Center against opposition leaders. Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP are involved in Maha Vikas Aghadi. When asked about the increasing cases of leaders of ruling and opposition parties filing complaints against each other in Maharashtra, Thackeray said, “We only go ahead with the legal process. I don’t want to comment more about it.” He alleged that the BJP leaders have become upset, so they are protesting on various issues in the state.
