After about ten years, he left his job and started private practice and organized free eye camps for people on a large scale. After increasing social activities, Charanjit Singh stepped into politics and joined the Congress. In 2014, State Congress President Partap Singh Bajwa made Charanjit Singh the President of Doctor Cell and from here his rivalry with Channi started.

In 2015, Charanjit Singh joined the Aam Aadmi Party and contested the 2017 assembly elections from Chamkaur Sahib seat. Charanjit Singh said that Channi had strong roots, so it took time to uproot it. Charanjit Singh’s wife Harjeet Kaur is also a doctor. He said that Chamkaur Sahib seat was the toughest battle in the whole of Punjab but was won due to honesty and service. The wife hopes that Charanjit Singh will be made Health Minister in Bhagwant Mann’s government, she also expressed her desire for the post of Deputy Chief Minister.
