Hair Straightener: Tips for Using It Right!

Hair irons have been around since at least the 1700s. The hydrogen bonds in the hair relax as the hair is heated, allowing people to set their hair into the desired style. People can achieve very straight, smooth hair if they buy a hair straightener and use it properly. A flat iron is a device used to remove curls and waves from hair. Straight hair can be achieved in the comfort of your own home using a flat iron styling tool. One must follow the following steps to get smooth and silky straight hair.

Heat-Proofing Your Hair

  • Use shampoos and conditioners that are smoothing or hydrating: this helps to create straight or sleek hair.
  • After you’ve gotten out of the shower, pat your hair dry. Rather than harshly ruffling your hair dry, gently squeeze it in sections with your towel to remove water. After showering, patting your hair dry helps to prevent excess frizz.
  • While the hair is still a bit wet, use a thermal protection serum or a heat treatment. It’s best to apply it while your hair is still wet because it allows you to distribute the serum throughout your hair without clumping evenly. After applying, comb your hair with a wide-toothed comb.
  • Then, dry your hair. When straightening your hair, you want it to be as dry as possible. It will improve your flat iron’s performance and prevent your hair from being shocked by the heat and breaking off.
  • While blow-drying your hair, point the dryer downward. Your hair will dry straighter if you move your hands away from the roots. Use the lowest heat on your hair dryer.

Technique to Be Used While Straightening

  • Connect your iron to the wall outlet and turn it on. Near the “on” switch will be a numbered heat setting that you can adjust to your desired heat level. The thicker your hair is, the higher the numbered setting should be. Set your straightener to the lowest setting if your hair is fragile and brittle to avoid damaging your hair.
  • Make several sections in your hair. Your hair’s thickness will determine the number of sections. Make sections one to two inches thick to pass through the straightener easily.
  • Place the straightener near the roots. But, be careful not to overheat. If your hair is straight, your straightener should start about 1 inch (2.5 cm) from your scalp.
  • Clamp the iron in place. With your hair resting between the heated sides, they should touch each other. If you clamp too tightly, you’ll end up with a ridge at the top of the hair section, where you’ll begin straightening.
  • Using the flat iron, run it down the length of your hair section.
  • Straighten the section up to 2-3 times with the straightener. Stop as soon as your hair is straight, but no more than three passes are recommended to avoid damaging your hair.

The ability to style all hair types is the best feature of a hair straightener/flat iron. Flat iron plates are made from various materials, so there is something for everyone. When you buy a hair straightener, keep in mind that it does more than straighten hair. You can use flat irons to curl, wave, or crimp hair. You’ll appreciate how little time it takes to straighten your hair with a hair straightener. You don’t need to go to a salon to get your hair styled.
